On the 30th December 1899, a woman named Joyce stumbled over some loose stones and fell into the harbour at Fraserburgh. The night was dark and the depth of water was 9 feet. Police Constable John Stewart, although unable to swim, took a lifebuoy and jumping in, kept her afloat till they were picked up by a boat, but on being landed, life was extinct
