For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of a platoon in an attack. When the advance was checked, he reinforced the leading wave on his own initiative and enabled the advance to continue. He led his men to the final objective with great vigour, and twice assisted another platoon by covering with Lewis Gun fire when held up. He showed splendid leadership and initiative.

Major Pugh showed outstanding ability in holding the company together and bringing it up to a high standard. In spite of many onerous civil commitments, he displayed great dedication to Home Guard duty, setting a splendid example to all those who came into contact with him. His efficiency, energy, and cheerful disposition helped the unit overcome many difficulties during its short history.
