Distinguished Flying Cross group of 5 to 175397 Flying Officer Jack Wilfred Franks of 619 Squadron, RAF, he qualified as a pilot in 1943, training in Gunter Field, Montgomery, Alabama, United States, from September 1941 he was piloting a Vultee BT-13 plane, with photos and certificates, later he returned to the U.K. where he was training a pupil to fly and the plane crashed (see photos), he served with 619 Squadron, flying many operations over Germany (see list of operations) including operations over Darmstadt, Königsberg, Brest, Le Havre, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, plus many more, with the group comes many arial photos of bombed targets plus photos of the crew & news cuttings, 619 was a short lived squadron (1943-1945), he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, London Gazette 25th May 1945
