Lenfestey family medals: British War Medal to Major Leopold d’Estreville Lenfestey and boxed War and Defence Medals to his son, Sgt John d’Estreville Lenfestey, 20 Squadron RAF, killed in a Blenheim crash in 1941

A family group spanning two world wars. The British War Medal is to Major Leopold d’Estreville Lenfestey, who served in India. The boxed War Medal and Defence Medal belonged to his son, Sergeant John d’Estreville Lenfestey, an observer with No. 20 Squadron, RAF.

On 2 July 1941, John was killed with the other two crew members when their Blenheim crashed during a training flight near Karachi. The Lenfestey family lived in Effingham, Surrey. An interesting lot with history.
