Royal Navy group of 8 awarded to Commander Francis Henry Stevens, who joined the Royal Navy in 1902 and served until 1946. Serving in the Victualling Branch, he was posted to HMS Daedalus from 1916 to 1917 and to HMS Europa from 1917 to 1919. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for valuable services rendered aboard HMS Europa at Mudros during the later stages of the First World War.

He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Coronation Year Honours of June 1937, the award document signed by King George VI being included. Recalled to service in 1938, he served throughout the Second World War as an Accounts Officer at the Patrol Service Central Depot, Lowestoft, remaining in service until 1946.

The group is accompanied by extensive original material including period photographs (showing him in uniform wearing his medals), original award document, contemporary newspaper cutting, a silver ring, and an original boatswain’s whistle.
