USSR - Order of the Red Star (WWII)

Awarded to Grigory Ivanovich Korotin, Red Army, served as a driver, horseman and sapper with the 266th Rifle Division during the Great Patriotic War. The citation records that during late-war operations, including fighting associated with the Berlin Campaign, he repeatedly undertook hazardous supply duties, delivering ammunition and maintaining essential logistical support to forward units under enemy fire.

The award was conferred by divisional order dated June 1945, in recognition of these services.

Commendation Summary

A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, he took part in the liberation of the Don region, Ukraine, Moldova, and Poland, pursuing the enemy in an honorable campaign from the Volga River to the Spree River.

As a driver and horseman in the transport company of the 1006th Rifle Regiment, 266th Rifle Division, Comrade Korotin demonstrated exceptional care for the protection of horses and the preservation of unit supplies, thereby supporting the regiment's constant state of combat readiness.

During the breakthrough of German defenses near Zechin (a municipality in the district Märkisch-Oderland, in Brandenburg, Germany) on May 2nd 1945, and in the battles for the capture of Berlin from April 15th to May 2nd 1945, he repeatedly delivered ammunition to the front lines under enemy fire, contributing significantly to the success of combat operations.

Since December 1941, he served on the Southwestern Front, the 4th and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts, and the 1st Belorussian Front. He was wounded on December 31st 1941, and sustained a concussion on January 2nd 1943.

He is deserving of the Order of the Red Star.
