Order of the Red Star (1255683)

He is an active and experienced artillery technical supply officer. He always approaches his work with diligence. He regularly demonstrates concern for the condition of our regiment's artillery and technical equipment. He frequently inspects the needs of various units while in combat formation.

The entire regiment has witnessed the Chief of Artillery Supply's dedication to the condition of our weaponry and holds this Engineer Captain in high esteem.

He organised the repair of equipment in the regiment effectively. Within a short period, he restored 12 anti-tank guns to working condition. Thanks to proper organisation, medium-level repairs of the guns were completed within a single day. Throughout all battles, he ensured timely delivery of ammunition to the artillery batteries during the fiercest moments of combat, thereby contributing to the successful repulsion of enemy infantry and tank attacks.

Recommended for the Order of the Red Star.

Regimental Commander - Guards Major Kuzmenko 19 February 1945

Awarded the Order of the Red Star By Order No. 022 of the Artillery Commander of the 46th Army, dated 2 March 1945

Chief of the Personnel Department, Army Artillery - Major Mikhailov 2 March 1945

*Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class (386471)

In the battles for the crossing of the Dnieper River, the consolidation and expansion of the right-bank bridgehead from September 27 to November 1, 1943, Comrade Khanin demonstrated examples of courage and selfless fulfilment of all combat orders from the command, ensuring uninterrupted supply of ammunition to the regiment under all combat conditions.

During the day in October 1943, in the area of Solomino-Mishurin Rog, Comrade Khanin organised the transport of ammunition to the right bank of the Dnieper. Despite heavy artillery shelling of the crossing and massive air raids by enemy aircraft in waves of 10 to 15 planes, under intense bombing and machine-gun fire, he managed to ferry and timely deliver shells to the right bank, thus ensuring the successful combat operations of the regiment.

During the artillery offensive on October 16, 1943, the breakthrough of the enemy front and the subsequent pursuit, Comrade Khanin, in conditions of rain, impassable roads, mined routes, and active enemy aviation, ensured uninterrupted ammunition supply to the regiment, field repairs of matériel, and evacuation of damaged guns.

Near the city of Krivoy Rog from October 28, 1943, the unit fell into encirclement in the area of Novo-Grigoryevka, Gurovka, and Izovatka, Comrade Khanin, being at the observation post of the 6th battery, by order of the command, organised the withdrawal of the battery with its matériel and weapons from encirclement, demonstrating courage and initiative (fuel remnants were drained from destroyed vehicles, parts of vehicles were taken for towing), and also led out the artillery workshop with all equipment, at the same time preventing any signs of panic, setting an example of bravery and decisive action.
